Sunday 14th May marks the first ever ‘Somerset Garden Day’. No matter whether your garden is big or small Somerset Garden Day is all about celebrating the lovingly tended escape just outside your door! You might have acres of landscaping, your very own secret garden or maybe just a well stocked window box! It’s all about sharing it with your family and friends.
Now we don’t have a garden here at Oak House but we are so lucky to have some beautiful ones for you to enjoy right on our doorstep. Here’s three of the fabulous ones that you can visit on a stay with us.
Just a ten minute walk up the road will take you to Hauser & Wirth Somerset. Not only can you admire the art and enjoy some delicious food but the gallery is also home to an amazing perennial meadow created by internationally-renowned landscape designer Piet Oudolf. It features 1,200 carefully selected plants that come together to create an ever-changing garden. A must see!
Another of our favourites can be found at Cole Manor Tea Rooms. Nestled in 5 acres of glorious English garden you can enjoy the views whilst sampling one of their tasty light lunches or their famous ‘posh tea’!
And finally (slightly further afield!) is Stourhead Gardens. A less than twenty minute drive takes you to this world famous National Trust property with a garden that has been described as ‘a living work of art’. Wander through the trees, visit the classical temples and marvel at the inspiring gardens in full bloom. Spring is the perfect time to visit!
If you have a beautiful garden you are proud of we’d love to see it – and so would Somerset Garden Day! Share your images on social media using #SomersetGardenDay and this Sunday why not invite over your family, friends or neighbours to enjoy it with you? A perfect excuse for a party!
